About SBCC Esthetician Students

To become a licensed Esthetician in California, Stateboard requires 600 hours of training and education.  That’s a lot of working on the dollheads, extractions, exfoliation, masks, steam … and pampering all in the name of learning about skincare and becoming an effective and nurturing esthetician.  As aspiring estheticians, we love skin; we are are eager to learn more about keeping skin healthy and youthful.  As we grow in our knowledge of skin types, treatments and relaxing, yet results-oriented facials, we are excited to treat and pamper clients who visit our clinic!  Continue to check our blog as we enthusiastically share skincare advice and tips and info on student profiles, class discussions and speakers.  And…it is Beauty School afterall, predominantly women, (this is the next reality show!)and we have many funny happenings to share!  So, check this blog for information and inspiration, schedule an affordable facial with one of us ($45.00), and … wear sunscreen!

About the Blog Administrator & Evening Esthetician Instructor:  I am so excited about being a teacher for the Esthetician Program!  Three years ago I was an esthetician student at SBCC and said, “I would love to be a teacher here.”  Voila!   My hope is that my experiences as a spa health reviewer and writer will add to the class discussions and spark inspiration and … my experiences and lessons in the classroom will help me become a better writer and teacher .  Every night I go home from teaching the class having learned something new from one or more of my students and my class experience.  I love it and I admire each student for following their passion and creating time in their busy schedules of work and family to attend evening beauty school!   Hope to see you in for a facial!     Sincerely, Melissa Mellott, M.Ed., L.E.

  1. Melissa,
I enjoyed reading your comments. You sound like a passionate instructor. Thank you. Our industry needs more people just like you to help encourage the passion in others. Your students seem to be engaged in learning and have had some very interesting guests.
I own a salon in Lompoc and will be speaking to the school this week in regard to student placement. I am glad that I happened upon your BLOG. It was refreshing!
